Rain Gear from Farmerrain – Quality and Function for Every Occasion
Whether it comes to hiking, dog walks, canoeing, hunting, cycling or the everyday showers of daily life – for those who work outdoors for much of their day, it is equally important to have genuinely comfortable and practical rain gear that lasts and performs in all weather.
Rain Gear from Farmerrain – for everyday life, work and the outdoors
Farmerrain offers a wide range of rain gear for all occasions and uses. Whether you are looking for a functional work garment for demanding outdoor professions in agriculture, industry and services, or a stylish and practical garment for commuting and everyday life – here you will find rain gear that combines function, durability and quality in every detail.
Farmerrain’s rain gear is developed for long service life and daily use, with robust materials and well-thought-out construction that withstands both heavy wear and demanding weather conditions. An important part of our philosophy is that garments should also be repairable and maintainable – a sustainable approach to producing and using rain gear that allows them to continue to be used for many years.
Rain gear for outdoor and nature activities
For those who love being out in the countryside, rain gear is absolutely crucial to how enjoyable time outdoors can be when it rains and blows. Staying warm, dry and comfortable is essential for wellbeing and performance – and this is where rain gear plays a decisive role. It is the practical and clever features that make the difference when the rain is pouring down – a protective hood to pull up, adjustable sleeves and legs that keep out the cold and rain, and pockets with secure closures for your phone and other belongings.
Farmerrain’s materials – Biovinyl+ and plasticiser free from phthalates
Farmerrain manufactures its rain gear from carefully selected materials with a focus on durability, function and safety. Our primary material is Biovinyl+ – a phthalate-free, durable and fossil-free alternative to traditional vinyl that combines reliable weather protection with a more sustainable and environmentally friendly material choice. Our plasticiser is free from phthalates, yet without compromising on a pleasant feel and softer fabric, making the garments suitable for the whole family and gentler on the environment. This has been an obvious choice for us since 2023 and offers an environmental standard and fossil footprint that no one else in the world currently matches.
PVC and Biovinyl+ are super-tight materials that provide robust and comprehensive protection against rain and moisture. They are particularly well suited to low-intensity and moderately active situations such as outdoor work, walking, gardening and outdoor activities where reliable and easy-to-maintain weather protection is the top priority. The materials are also easy to clean and maintain, contributing to the garments’ long service life. We also offer ventilation zips, pit zips (under the arms) or mechanical ventilation. Companies with specific requirements are welcome to contact us regarding design, branding or colour choices.
The water column of rain gear – how waterproofness is measured
One of the most common ways to measure how waterproof a fabric is is known as the hydrostatic pressure test, or hydrostatic head. The test is used within international standards for rain gear, including EN 343 and EN 20811.
How the test works
During the test, a piece of fabric is clamped into a testing apparatus. A tube or cylinder is then gradually filled with water so that the water pressure against the fabric increases. The point at which water begins to penetrate the fabric is recorded. The result is expressed in millimetres of water column (mm).
A figure of, for example, 10,000 mm means that the material can withstand the pressure of a 10-metre-high water column before water begins to pass through the material.
At Farmerrain, we sell rain gear – not water-repellent leisure clothing.
This means our fabric choices have a water column of around 20,000 mm.
- 15,000 mm – Handles heavy rain over extended periods
- >20,000 mm – Provides very high protection against heavy and persistent rain as well as pressure, for example when sitting on wet surfaces or carrying a heavy backpack. Suitable for tough conditions and advanced outdoor use
In accordance with EN 343, the standard for protective clothing against rain, seams and construction are also tested, since a garment is only as waterproof as its weakest point.
Waterproof fabric + welded seams
If you are looking for a waterproof garment, look for double-welded seams. We also have garments with taped seams. However, this places demands on the quality of the tape, which we otherwise consider to be a weaker point than double-welded seams.

Manufactured in Europe
Farmerrain has chosen to keep its production in Europe for several important reasons relating to quality, responsibility and long-term thinking.
One important factor is the strict European regulations on chemicals and materials. Within the EU, extensive legislation sets high requirements for which substances may be used in textiles and plastic materials. This means that rain gear and rain gear fabrics produced here are carefully monitored and in many cases contain fewer harmful chemicals. For a company working with materials that must withstand rain, dirt and hard work, it is essential that the materials are both safe and durable.
Another reason is quality. Europe has a long tradition of developing technical textiles and protective clothing. The expertise in coated fabrics, welded seams and hard-wearing materials is well established. By producing in Europe, Farmerrain can work closely with its material suppliers, follow the manufacturing process and ensure that every garment meets the standard required for work in tough environments.
Proximity to production is also important from an environmental perspective. Shorter transport distances reduce the climate impact and enable better control of the supply chain. It also makes production more flexible and allows for faster adaptations when needs change.
Working conditions are a further consideration. European production generally entails higher requirements for working environment, safety and social responsibility. For Farmerrain, it is important that the products bearing the company’s name are also manufactured under reasonable and transparent conditions.
Finally, the decision is also about safeguarding a European tradition of knowledge in rain gear and technical textiles. By continuing to produce in Europe, Farmerrain contributes to preserving and developing the expertise that has been built up over a long time within this industry.
For Farmerrain, therefore, the choice to remain in Europe is not merely a question of production – but of quality, responsibility and respect for both people and the environment.
